Lewis “Lew” Hay, III is chairman and chief executive officer of NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE), one of the nation’s leading electricity-related services companies and the largest renewable energy generator in North America. He was elected CEO in June 2001 and elected chairman of the board in January 2002. Mr. Hay is also chairman of NextEra Energy’s two primary subsidiaries, Florida Power & Light Company and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC.
Mr. Hay joined NextEra Energy as chief financial officer in August 1999. In March 2000 he was appointed president of NextEra Energy Resources.
Mr. Hay received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University in 1977 and a master of science degree in industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University in 1982.
He serves on the board of directors of Capital One and Harris Corporation. Mr. Hay is a vice chairman of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the association of U.S. shareholder-owned electric companies. He is also a director and past chairman of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), which encompasses all U.S. commercial nuclear operating organizations, and he is a director of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI). Mr. Hay is a member of the Business Board of Advisors at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, and a member of the Business Roundtable and the Florida Council of 100.
He and his family reside in Palm Beach County.
