David Thomas retired from the Montgomery County Department of Police in December of 2000 after 15 years of Service. Upon retirement Dave was honored to have been the 2nd highest decorated officer in the history of the department as a recipient of both the silver and bronze medals of valor as well as the Women’s Alliance of Maryland Domestic Violence Advocacy Award, the Montgomery County, County Executive’s Award, and the Johns Hopkins University 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Services Award. Dave is involved in violence against women curriculum and policy development, technical assistance, and training at the state, local, federal, and international levels. Presently, Dave serves as the Program Administrator of the Domestic Violence Education Program as well as a faculty member in the Division of Public Safety Leadership at Johns Hopkins University. Dave considers fighting violence against women as his calling in life.
