Zach is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of ServeNext.org—an organization building a national grassroots movement to make volunteerism, service, and AmeriCorps an enduring priority for our nation and elected leaders as strategies to tackle our most pressing social challenges.
Zach got his start in the national service field by joining City Year, a leading AmeriCorps organization. Deeply inspired by the impact both personally and in the communities where he worked, he co-founded ServeNext in 2007 in response to four consecutive years of federal budget cuts to national service and the need for a powerful grassroots voice.
Under Zach’s leadership, ServeNext made national service an issue during the 2008 presidential campaign, and then played critical role in the development and passage of the bipartisan Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in 2009—the most comprehensive service policy in 75 years. Most recently, its grassroots work has expanded to 14 locations and is playing a lead role in the current efforts to win back service funding in the federal budget.
Previously, Zach worked at New Leaders for New Schools and serves on the City Year Washington, DC Alumni Association Board. He has received a 40 Under 40 Award from New Leaders Council in 2009 and a City Year Comcast Leadership award in 2010.
Zach graduated from George Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in English. He’s originally from Pittsburgh and is a loyal Penguins and Steelers fan now living in Washington, DC.
