Michael S. Okun, M.D. is the National Medical Director for the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and Co-Founder of the University of Florida Health Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration. Dr. Okun has been a key advocate for the development of a value based interdisciplinary care model for Parkinson’s disease and he has helped to develop and administrate over 40 international NPF Parkinson’s Centers of Excellence. Dr. Okun moderates the free online international “Ask the Doctor Forum,” on the NPF website, and to date has personally answered over 20,000 questions from patients, families and physicians. Dr. Okun has played an integral role in developing neural network approaches for new therapies in Parkinson’s disease and deep brain stimulation. He has published over 300 papers and his most recent book, Parkinson's Treatment: 10 Secrets to a Happier Life, was translated into over 20 languages.
