Save the Date: National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Twitterchat!

As we announced on Twitter last week, Assistant to the President and Director of the Domestic Policy Council, Cecilia Muñoz, and I will host a Twitterchat this Thursday, October 15, 2015 to mark National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD). Latinos face notable disparities in the HIV epidemic in America, and one part of addressing them is making materials and information more accessible to especially Spanish-speaking communities.

That’s why on October 15, the Office of National AIDS Policy will release a Spanish translation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy: Updated to 2020, which we launched in July. La Estrategia Nacional Contra el VIH/SIDA: Actualizada hasta 2020 will help Spanish speakers understand the principles and specific actions detailed in the Strategy, especially our laser-like focus on the Right People, Right Places, Right Practices, and the major advances that have transformed our response in the last five years, especially the Affordable Care Act and what it means for people affected by HIV.

On NLAAD, we hope to continue this dialogue in the broader HIV and Latino communities. Cecilia, the daughter of immigrants from Bolivia, brings decades of experience fighting for the Latino community while at the National Council of La Raza and the past seven years in the White House. She and I will answer your questions in English and Spanish, to help unpack the issues facing the Latino community and raise awareness of HIV disparities, prevention and care services, and our national policies to improve the health and lives of people living with HIV.
