First Lady Michelle Obama Announces Plans to Honor 2015 Graduating Seniors

This morning, First Lady Michelle Obama announced that she will deliver commencement addresses at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Preparatory High School (King College Prep) in Chicago, Illinois.

All three schools are doing their part to answer the President’s call to ensure that America has the highest proportion of college graduates in the world. 

The First Lady will travel to Tuskegee on Saturday, May 9 to give the commencement address to the Class of 2015.

Oberlin College and King College Prep submitted outstanding video submissions to the commencement challenges she issued last October: the “Near-Peer” Mentoring College Challenge and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Complete Challenge. 

So, on Saturday, May 25, the First Lady will travel to Oberlin College to speak to the Class of 2015. You can watch Oberlin College's winning video, below. The video features student talent from their Ninde Scholars Program, which helps Oberlin undergrads who provide support to those in need.

Then on Saturday, June 9,  the First Lady will deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2015 at King College Prep in Chicago. You can watch King College Prep's winning video, below. The video features students performing in a mock episode of the hit TV show "Scandal." King College Prep has a 100% college acceptance rate.

You can watch the First Lady’s videos issuing the “Near-Peer Mentoring College” Challenge, and the FAFSA Completion Challenge here and here. The “Near-Peer Mentoring College” Challenge was directed at college communities and institutes of higher education, urging them to share via student-produced video the ways that they are creating college immersion experiences for high school students.

The FAFSA Completion Challenge was directed at high schools, urging them to creatively share via student-produced video how they are increasing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rates among their seniors.

The First Lady’s Office received hundreds of video submissions from schools across the country who are striving to make attending college a reality for all students. Watch highlights from all the video submissions below:
