The Faces of Health Care: Tricia T.

Summary:
Tricia T. wrote the President to share the impact that the Affordable Care Act has made on her life.

"My new health insurance will allow me to get the medical help that I need to get stronger."

Tricia T. wrote the President to share the impact that the Affordable Care Act has made on her life.

In February 2009, Tricia started her own business -- and “took in roommates and lived on bologna sandwiches” due to her limited budget. Her determination would pay off, and she eventually achieved success with her company.

But because of her limited budget, she didn’t have enough money to purchase a quality health plan. She subsequently suffered damage to her heart and her vascular system as a result of Lyme disease and rickettsia, and she later developed CVID (common variable immunodeficiency).

As a result, she needed to have a chest port surgically inserted, but the plan she had at the time would have only paid $50 toward the port surgery. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, however, she’s been able to get a new health insurance plan that will enable her to get the surgery.

“I hope to continue to work and to keep my little company going,” Tricia writes, “but if I cannot continue to work, [at] least I know if I go on disability that I will not have the fear of losing everything that I have worked for my entire life!”
