Welcome to the Council on Women and Girls Weekly Highlights! This week, the President and First Lady welcomed Chancellor Angela Merkel of the Federal Republic of Germany to the White House for an Official Visit. Chancellor Merkel is etching cracks in the glass ceiling of inequality by becoming Germany’s first female Chancellor. Her visit serves as a testament to our Administration’s commitment to increasing international peace through allied partnerships.
First Lady Michelle Obama will continue to spread the message of international cooperation as she travels to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa and Gaborone, Botswana during an official visit later this month. The trip, which will focus on youth leadership, education, health and wellness, is a continuation of Mrs. Obama’s work to engage young people at home and abroad.
